1. I want to start cross-stitching some of the patterns from your website. What are my first steps?

Familiarize yourself with the proper way of reading charts. I advise you to watch some tutorials on YouTube on both how to read charts and how to cross-stitch.

I prepared a guide for reading my cross-stitch charts.

Cross-stitching is very easy but counted cross-stitch requires a bit of preparation and planning, especially for large patterns. I suggest starting small and then seeing if you want more challenging projects. I have tagged the easy cross-stitch patterns from my website with the ‘Beginner’ tag – this category includes patterns without backstitch.

2. You say the patterns are for free?! Can I sell them?

The patterns are not free – they are offered for free. There is a big difference. And no, you cannot sell them. You also cannot distribute them outside crosstitchvienna.at or duplicate the designs and sell them as yours. Please see the Terms and Conditions for information on copyright.

3. Where can I buy cross-stitch or embroidery supplies in Vienna, Austria?

Check this post for a list of local cross-stitch supplies stores in Vienna.

(Auch auf Deutsch.)

4. What embroidery paper do you use?

For most of my projects, I use “Stickvlies” that I find in local stores – it’s German for embroidery paper, usually an easy tear-away paper. Madeira brand does both cotton tear-away paper and water soluble paper too. I use the latter for stitching clothes.

5. I don’t have all of the floss the chart is asking for. What do I do?

You can look up DMC colour alternatives through this free DMC Color Substitute Chart. If you have Anchor but not DMC, you can see if your Anchor stock translates to DMC here.

6. How do you create cross-stitch patterns?

I design them in Photoshop and then transfer them to WinStitch. / this is not an affiliate link nor do I have any partnerships with the store.

7. Do you do free custom/on request patterns?

I don’t.

8. Do you accept commissions for custom patterns?

I do but it really depends on my schedule. Please message me using this form.

9. Do you sell finished cross-stitch based on your charts?

I do but only during sale periods and only within the EU. Please contact me anyway, and I can try to refer you to local fiber artists I know that do this type of stuff.

10. After I have stitched your chart, can I sell the finished work?

It depends.

You may stitch a cross-stitch based on my patterns and then decide to sell it because someone asked. But if you are a business that specialises in selling finished cross-stitches based on other people’s patterns, that’s different.

If you choose to create multiple pieces based on my patterns (free, part of Ko-fi membership or sold in an online store) with the intention of selling them, then you are using copyrighted work for financial gain. I do not explicitly agree to this unless you approach me to discuss an agreement where you pay a licensing fee (a small percentage of the final cost of the finish that covers the cost of the pattern plus a symbolic license fee per finished product). Please, reach out to me via this contact form.

11. I want to send you my finish. How do I do that?

Yes, please! You can submit a link to your cross-stitch finish via this Google Form. If it’s not been published yet or you don’t want to publish it anywhwere, you can upload it to, for example, your Google Drive and share a public link with me.

I cannot wait to see your work! 🙂
